The Missing Girl

On 25th Mar's evening, on the way to Vista Point to meet up with Ser Seng. At my house void deck, there was this little girl, around the age of 4 or 5, running about. At first, I thought it was just those little kids playing hide and seek. However, she started crying and yelling. & I realised she was alone. Just when she ran past us, I heard her yelling for "Nai Nai" (Grandma in Mandarin). So I got hold of her, asked her what happened.

She was wailing, couldn't figure out what exactly she was trying to say in the first place. She tried to run across the road, it was so dangerous. She was so helpless, so I held her hand tight, calmed her down by consoling her that I would bring her back to her grandma. After awhile, she managed to say out broken sentences like "Grandma at home", "At the park running", "I don't know how to go home".

Wow.. That's really a test.. I brought her to the park, asked her where's her grandma, did her grandma bring her to the park or she went alone. Then she finally talked clearly, "Small cousin brother and big cousin brother brought me here, then they ran away, I cannot find them, I cannot find grandma". Then she started crying again... Kieron who was very mischievious whenever we were out of house, he saw the sight of this little sister crying for grandma. He became real quiet. He looked at her, with stares of pitiness, fear and sadness. He tried to console her too, he told her "Don't cry, cannot cry, you cry we can't hear you talking. We will bring you home". I was so surprised he became so "mature".

After knowing it was her cousin who brought her to the park, I held her real tight, not only to give her security feeling but also to prevent her from running about in the carpark. I asked her where's and which was her cousin. Then came this little boy wearing school uniform, around Pri 5? He held the little girl shoulder, told her not to cry and asked where she went. When the little girl said it was her cousin brother. I tried to stop the cousin brother. He just kept walked away in quick paces. I got angry and shouted at him "Hey Boy, stop there and I want to talk to you" He did stop, I scolded him for throwing a little girl alone, it's so dangerous. He looked guilty, but speechless and walked away with the little girl.. Hope he "did" learn the lesson and take good care of the little girl.

After what happened, I had a mixture of feelings and thoughts. What will happen if the girl run too far away from the park as night is falling. What will happen if the cousin brother did not remember about his little girl till he reach home? What will happen if this little girl keep run about in the carpark? What will happen if there are bad guys around waiting for chance? Why adults nowadays let their kids go to park and playground alone, are modern kids really that independant?

However, it was considered a precious moment. Because somehow I felt happy for saving a little girl, and Kieron finally believed me that running about alone will get lost. hehe...

I just wish parents can be more responsible to their kids but not over protective, they still need chances to gain experiences, regardless of good or bad...
